Walmart Grocery Pickup – How it Works and Tips!
Hi, today I want to show how Walmart grocery store pickup works and my personal experiences using Walmart curbside pickup.
If you didn’t know, Walmart has an option for you to buy your groceries online then a personal shopper will do the shopping for you.
I’ll be honest, I heard about Walmart Grocery Pickup about a year ago. But I was too scared to try online grocery shopping. Last year, I tried Walmart Pickup when my little boys got sick, and my fridge/pantry desperately needed to be restocked. It was life-changing! I love using Walmart pickup service when I need to buy a good amount of groceries. If it’s only for a few things, then we make a quick shopping trip to Walmart.
Here’s $10 to try Walmart Grocery Pickup, my referral link. 🌻

So, How Does it Work?
Well, you can place your order in two different ways. Either on the computer or your phone.
If you’re on the computer, then go to Walmart’s store website. On the top right corner, you’ll click the grocery tab.
This will send you to the Walmart grocery website, where you’ll have your option on which Walmart you want to pick up from, what time you want to reserve your pick up (which I usually do later at check out), and your cart on the right with the total price.
This service is free; they only kindly ask you to leave a quick, honest survey about your experience after you pick up your order.
My First Experience
The first time that I used Walmart Pickup, I thought it was a waste of time. I spent a lot of time looking for the products online. I could have quickly gone with all 3 of my kids to the store and back in a shorter amount of time. But that was my 1st experience, the longer I used Walmart Pick-Up, the more I enjoyed it.
The first tip to enjoy Walmart Grocery Pickup is to heart everything that you usually like to buy. For instance, apples, soap, and even dry shampoo. If you clicked the heart button, this automatically saves it to your favorites. This way, next time you place your order. You can quickly go to your favorites tab and have a faster checkout.
How to Find Products?
You have a couple of options on how to find products. One is to type in the items in the search, or click the shop by department and shop your way through the different departments.
When you find your product, make sure to click the heart to favorite the product, then click add to cart.
If you accidentally added a product to your cart. You can easily click the product to delete the product from your cart. Or to decrease or increase the quantity
Keep shopping until you’re ready to place your order of a minimum of $30. That’s the minimum amount that you have to spend to be able to use the Walmart grocery store pickup service.
How to Checkout?
When you’re ready to place your order, click check out.
When you click the checkout, it will bring up a missing anything page. You can go through the items to see what else you forgot or click continue to checkout.
A reserve the time page will come up, this is where you can change your Walmart Pickup location and choose your best time to pick up your order.
I love to pick up my order before lunch. So I can have dinner ready by dinner time.
After you choose your time, then review your order will come up, this is where you’ll review your order.
On this page, you’ll see the substitute all checkmark. Uncheck the checkmark if you don’t want any alternatives. Or, go through your list and uncheck the items that you don’t want to be substituted. For instance, I usually get the original almond milk, and I don’t want Walmart to replace the almond milk to soy milk, so I make sure to uncheck the substitute box.
When you finish, click place order.
After you place your order, you’ll get an email saying that Walmart has received your order.
How to Use Walmart Grocery Pickup on Your Phone?
You can also place your order online right from your phone.
First, you will need to download the Walmart grocery app.
On the phone, you have a few more options. One is a barcode scanner. Scan your items to add it right into your cart.
Then, go down the page to add other items into your cart, or go to your favorites tab.
You can also shop by using the department section or by searching for the products that you want to buy.
The cart and the total will be on the top right corner. You can click the cart to change your order, and this is where you’ll check out. You can place your reservation pickup before checking out or after. I usually pick my reservation spot after I check out.
Can You Change Your Order?
You can still make changes to your order after you checkout. Walmart will let you know the time that you can change the order right after you place the order. After that specific time, you can’t make any more changes.
Changing your order is very easy on both the computer and the phone. I like using my phone because my phone is usually right by me. If you want to change your order, you’ll need to open the app and add another item to your cart and click add to order.
Now, you can let your personal shopper do the shopping for you while you get something checked off from your to-do list.
Order is Ready to be Picked Up
With every order that I placed, my order was ready to be picked up about 10 minutes before my reservation time. That’s when I would get an email saying that my order is ready to be picked up.
When you get your notification or when you’re ready to pick up your order. You need to check-in, this lets the personal shopper know that you’re on your way. So, they can have time to get your items ready before you arrive.
To check-in, you’ll need to open your Walmart app. Click the check-in button. Then drive to Walmart.
At Walmart, they have orange signs for you to follow to get to the Walmart curbside pickup location. Park at a parking lot that usually has a number or a letter.
When I arrive, I usually have a message saying that I’m here and an associate will be here with me shortly. I also have a choice to add in my car’s color and what parking spot I’ve parked.
Personal Shopper
Your personal shopper will come up to your car, asking for your name. The first time that I picked up my Walmart order, my personal shopper asked for my ID, to make sure I’m the correct person.
The first thing that your personal shopper will tell you is if your order had any substitutes or if items were out of stock. If you did have alternatives, you could accept or reject it. You wouldn’t be charged extra if you denied or took the substitute.
Walmart always charges the lowest price for the substitution. One time I placed an order for 3 pounds of oranges. They substituted the 3 pounds oranges to 8 pounds, and I didn’t have to pay extra. I didn’t mind that substitute because I knew we could eat all of those oranges.
If you reject an alternative, the price would be deducted from your final bill.
The personal shopper loads your car, and you’re welcome to help them.
And at one point, the personal shopper will give you a device to sign that you picked up your Walmart order. Then you’re ready to go home.
Well, that’s how you use Walmart Grocery Curbside Pickup.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a good day!
